During vs. While



During and while both mean through a period of time.

Use during before a noun that names an event or a period of time. 

They work during the night and sleep by day.
You're not allowed to talk during the exam.

Use while before a clause.

gained a lot of weight while I was on holiday.
read it while you were drying your hair.
